About Me:

Annie Porteous-Butler

MBCAP, BA (Hons)

Hi, my name is Annie and I have a first class honors degree in person-centred counselling, hold an Enhanced DBS check, am a member of the BACP and abide by their Ethical Framework. This means that I endeavour to provide best practice for all my clients. I work with teenagers (11 to 18) and adults (18+).

Let me tell you a little bit about myself…

As a teenager I struggled with Depression after experiencing bereavement of a close family member, leading to relationship breakdowns and some poor life choices. When my own daughter made a suicide attempt I knew that, to help her, I had to change something about myself. It was while studying that I was diagnosed with a disabling condition which put my counselling qualification in jeopardy.

It was only in the midst of personal trauma that I realised that I had never truly been heard and how important it is to be listened to.

Sometimes life throws us into situations that can feel unbearable… and it’s important to know that not being OK is absolutely OK. Asking for help can feel frightening, but it is equally important to know that it is your journey and you are in control. I offer a welcoming and non-judgemental space where I hope you will feel safe enough to share what’s troubling you, and then I will hold your hand as we start your journey together.

I work exclusively online using WhatsApp Video because it is readily available and encrypted. As well as convenience, online counselling offers many benefits for clients; please read about them here

Please also feel free to read an article I have written about disability.
